Charlie, this is so profound! I've been wanting to watch this video since I had to hurry out of class.
I think there is a really interesting moment in the commercial where the older man hands the woman a carved ballerina doll. In class, we discuss "colonizing the future" a lot but I wonder in what ways does this act colonize the past? Perhaps colonize is not the best word of choice but there is most definitely a suggestion of re-imagining what a little girl's past would be like. Its also interesting as it is an apology gift that symbolizes his regrettable behavior but it also says "i'm sorry you didn't have a proper little girl's childhood" when maybe he did. I think this could be a valuable discussion to have in class to see what others think of this move.
